Read the year-specific calendar
China’s holiday calendar may shift work onto selected Saturdays or Sundays. The table gives the official 2026 holiday periods and makeup workdays. It is not a calendar for later years, and a working weekend does not guarantee that a particular host is available.
Expect travel peaks
Spring Festival, Labour Day and National Day can put pressure on trains, hotels and popular attractions. Book early, keep transfers realistic and consider less crowded time slots. Shops and restaurants may remain open, while individual businesses may close for longer than the official break.
Book company visits around operations
Many office meetings occur on weekdays, roughly within daytime business hours, with a lunch break. Factories, banks and public offices follow different schedules. Confirm the actual host, meeting time, interpreter and travel time; do not arrive at a factory unannounced.
Check attraction opening separately
Museums may close on a regular weekday or use special holiday opening hours. Mountain transport and boats may stop for weather. Reconfirm tickets and opening arrangements close to your date rather than assuming a public holiday means everything is open.
